Regional UPSTU Science Innovation Projects Competition 2025: A Showcase of Innovation and Scientific Excellence

The UPSTU Science Innovation Projects Competition 2025 has been an extraordinary success so far, with regional exhibitions bringing together the brightest young innovators from across Uganda. This report covers the highlights, the winning projects, and key observations from each of the four regional exhibitions: Central, Eastern, Western, and Northern regions.

Central Region – Mbogo Mixed Secondary School (21st June 2025)

The Central Region exhibition was a vibrant display of innovative projects, with 20 projects participating. Students tackled diverse issues such as waste management, healthcare, and technology solutions for rural communities.

🧪 Exhibition Setup and Event Flow

The exhibitions were held in a spacious halls, allowing for a seamless setup. The hall was divided into two main sections:

  • Exhibition Stalls: At the back of the hall, each school had a dedicated space to set up their project displays. Students interacted with visitors, explaining their projects and demonstrating how their innovations work. See Livestream of Adjudication as Exhibition Stalls in Northern Region below:
  • Projection Screen: At the front of the hall, a large screen was set up for PowerPoint presentations. The teams submitted their presentations to the projection PC after the opening ceremony. See Livestream of Pitch Presentations in Northern Region below:

🕒 Event Schedule

The event followed a structured timeline to ensure smooth proceedings:

  • Opening Ceremony: After an official welcome and introduction, the competition began with adjudicators touring the exhibition stalls, physically evaluating each project and collecting reports.
  • Pitching Session: Each school was allotted 8 minutes to present their project, followed by 2 minutes for questions from the judges. This ensured that each team had the opportunity to explain their work and answer any queries related to their innovation.

The adjudicators praised the students for their clear communication, innovative solutions, and strong scientific backing. They emphasized the importance of demonstrating practical applications of science in everyday life and encouraged the students to continue developing their projects for future iterations and potential real-world use.
