The Uganda Professional Science Teachers’ Union (UPSTU) wishes to inform all participating schools, learners, teachers, adjudicators, partners, and stakeholders that the planned physical phases of the UPSTU Science Innovation Projects Competition 2026 have been extended until further notice.
This decision has been reached following consultations with various authorities and stakeholders regarding the current public health situation and the advisability of convening large physical gatherings involving learners from different schools and regions of the country. As a responsible professional organization committed to the safety, wellbeing, and protection of learners, teachers, and all participants, UPSTU considers it prudent to temporarily suspend preparations for physical exhibition activities while further consultations continue.
We recognize the tremendous effort that schools, teachers, and learners have invested in developing innovative projects for this year’s competition. We also appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated towards promoting science, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving among young people. The extension should therefore not be interpreted as a cancellation of the competition, but rather as a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring that the event is conducted in a manner that safeguards the health and welfare of all participants.
UPSTU remains fully committed to the objectives of the Science Innovation Projects Competition and is actively exploring alternative approaches and modalities for conducting the 2026 edition. A revised schedule, including updated timelines, participation guidelines, and competition modalities, will be communicated to all stakeholders once the ongoing consultations are concluded.
We kindly request all participating schools and stakeholders to remain patient and continue supporting learners in refining and documenting their projects as they await further communication from the organizing committee. We thank you for your continued cooperation, understanding, and commitment to promoting science for national development and transformation.
