Teaching Of Cross-Cutting Issues in CBC |ProDev Hour

This meeting was a Professional Development Hour (PRODEV) session hosted by the Uganda Professional Science Teachers Union, focusing on teaching cross-cutting issues in the competence-based curriculum. The main presenter was Matthias Mulumba, a freelance educator and technical advisor on competency-based education, who explained how to integrate sustainable development goals into classroom teaching across different subjects. The presentation demonstrated how cross-cutting issues like environmental awareness, health awareness, gender equality, socio-economic issues, citizenship and patriotism, and life skills can be embedded in various curriculum topics, using practical examples such as static electricity in physics and soil erosion in geography. Participants discussed how teachers can move beyond theoretical content to practical applications that address real-world problems and involve learners in community-based solutions. The session included interactive elements where attendees identified examples of cross-cutting issues in images and discussed how these concepts appear across different subjects in the curriculum framework.
