Designing a Competence-Based Scheme of Work for Real Classroom Impact

This ProDev Hour session focused on developing competency-based schemes of work for teachers. Kennedy Matumbwe, a curriculum specialist from the National Curriculum Development Center, presented a comprehensive guide on creating schemes of work that align with the competence-based curriculum. He explained key components including teacher name, class level, subject, term, topic, competencies, weeks, periods, learning outcomes, methodology, teaching resources, evidence of achievement, references, and remarks. Kennedy demonstrated a sample scheme of work using mathematics as an example and emphasized that a good scheme of work is a professional tool for building real competencies rather than just a paperwork requirement. The session included time for questions from participants, with discussions about references, period allocation, and template applicability across different subjects.
