ProDev|Shortlist Feedback & Updated Schedule for the UPSTU Science Innovation Projects Competition2026

This meeting was a ProDev Hour focused on the Science Innovation Project 2026 hosted by the Uganda Professional Science Teachers Union. Betty Awomer, the National Secretary for Education, Professional Standards and Discipline, presented the results of the vetting exercise for the competition, which received 258 projects from various schools across Uganda’s four regions. The vetting process shortlisted schools for regional competitions scheduled to take place between June 20 and July 4, with Central Region being the first to compete on June 20 at St. Henry’s College Chitovu in Masaka. Betty highlighted areas of strength in the submissions, including genuine community problem-solving, high levels of creativity, good STEM integration, and strong learner participation, while also identifying areas for improvement such as weak problem identification, poor report organization, and limited stakeholder engagement. Several participants raised concerns about the exhibition venues, particularly the distance from Karamoja region to West Nile, and requested better certificates for student participants to help with career development. The conversation ended with guidance on preparing for the regional competitions, including using a sample pitch deck format and ensuring proper documentation
