Over 2,000 Teachers Complete Refresher Training on New Lower Secondary School Curriculum

More than 2,000 teachers from across Uganda have successfully completed a refresher training course on the new Lower Secondary School Curriculum. The training, organized by education stakeholders and supported by the Ministry of Education, aimed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively teach S.3 content and manage learner assessments under the revised curriculum.

The training program, which included both in-person and virtual sessions, focused on key aspects of the new curriculum, such as learner-centered teaching approaches, subject integration, and innovative assessment methods. Participants were introduced to updated teaching materials, resources, and strategies that will enable them to create engaging and interactive learning experiences for their students.

In addition to providing teachers with a thorough understanding of the new curriculum, the training also emphasized the importance of adopting a more holistic approach to education. This approach encourages the development of students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as fostering a sense of responsibility, empathy, and cultural awareness.

The completion of the refresher training course marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education in Uganda. Teachers who participated in the program are now better equipped to adapt their teaching practices to meet the demands of the new curriculum, ensuring that students are provided with a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century.

Several teachers who participated in the training expressed gratitude for the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and skills, stating that the program had provided them with valuable insights and tools to enhance their teaching practices. They also emphasized the importance of continued professional development in order to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in education and pedagogy.

As the new Lower Secondary School Curriculum continues to be rolled out across the country, the successful completion of this refresher training course demonstrates the commitment of teachers, educational institutions, and the Ministry of Education to providing high-quality education to Uganda’s youth. The program not only enhances the capacity of teachers to deliver the new curriculum effectively but also serves as a testament to the dedication and resilience of Uganda’s education sector in adapting to the evolving needs of its students.
